About Us

The Community of the Transfiguration is a Religious Order in the Anglican/Episcopal tradition, founded in 1898 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Mother Eva Mary Matthews and Sister Beatrice Martha Henderson.

The Sisters of the Transfiguration are women, lay and ordained, living together under religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in our convent in Glendale, north of Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as a branch house in northern Ohio.

Our primary and most essential ministries are prayer and worship; both of which strengthen us to serve wherever we are called.

Our ministry initiatives include Bethany School, the Transfiguration Spirituality Center retreat and guest accommodations, St. Monica’s Recreation Center in Lincoln Heights, and our newest ministry, Food for the Soul food rescue and pantry.

During COVID, we have had to temporarily adapt our practices of hospitality, but we have learned a great deal and are taking increasing advantage of the kind of technological innovations which help us to stay connected, share our worship, and offer spiritual direction and companionship in new ways.

Daily Worship

The Divine Office and the Daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist are the heartbeat of a Religious Community. We come together throughout the day to offer Psalms, prayers and hymns in praise to God and in intercession for the needs of individuals and the world. The Daily Office links us together in Christ with those for whom we pray and with all of God's people across space and time. As Episcopalians and as part of the Anglican Communion, we are heirs of a rich and varied liturgy. Our Offices are based on those in the Book of Common Prayer.

Most worship is in the Oratory, in the Convent building. On some Sundays and major feast days the Eucharist may be held in the Chapel of the Transfiguration.
